Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge Slated for October 21
Cal Club Autocross in conjunction with the Cancer Journeys Foundation (CJF) is pleased to announce the inaugural Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge for cancer awareness and prevention. The event will take place on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California during Cal Club Autocross's tenth event of the season.
The Stop Cancer Autocross Challenge is a unique competition where each team is comprised of a female and male driver—couples, spouses, siblings, parent/child, or friends/family. Each team member will drive an autocross course four times, with their team score being the combined total of the fastest run by each team member. Participant cars will be indexed so that teams will compete on an even basis regardless of the type of their car. Trophies will be awarded in four categories.
The team categories are as follows:
Category 1: Combined age unlimited
Category 2: One driver under 21
Category 3: Both drivers under 21
Category 4: Combined age of 130 or more
For Cal Club Autocross members who elect to participate in the Stop Cancer Challenge, the four competition runs still count towards year-end points and trophies.
According to CJF founder Robert Hess, “Our goal for the event is to reach the automotive enthusiast community with the importance of screening and early detection of cancer—and have some #funwithcars at the same time. This year’s event comes just after September, which is National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and in the middle of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month—October. Autocross is a great motorsport and both men and women actively compete, but this is the first time men and women will be competing together as a team. It’s exciting.”
Participants for the Challenge must pre-register for the event at solo2.motorsportreg.com. The runs will be taken during Cal Club Autocross's normal Sunday event competition. Participants will need to register online in advance and select the box to be entered into the Cancer Challenge.
An SCCA membership is required to participate in the event. If you’re not an SCCA member, do not worry. During the online registration process, you can buy a weekend membership.
Online pre-registration fees:
Adult - $35
Student - $25
Jr Karter - $15
Winning Team Selection
Each team member will run the course four times, with the lowest time of each team member being added together to form the team’s final score. Teams will be scored using the PAX handicap system. Category winners will be the team with the lowest combined time.
Category winners will be awarded a trophy. Second and third place teams will be awarded the Cancer Journeys Foundation’s coveted ‘CJ’ mascot.
